NHS Forth Valley strives to ensure the wellbeing of the workforce. Along with other teams, the Occupational Health team are key in delivering the Workforce Wellbeing plan. Occupational Health provides a confidential and comprehensive service to all NHS Forth Valley employees, supporting managers and staff to create a healthy and safe working environment.
NHSFV Occupational Health used the results of their 2021 iMatters survey to identify an Action Plan for 2021/2022. One of the objectives was to focus on the teams own wellbeing and embed this within the teams core values.
The OH Team recognised the importance of self compassion to improve their own wellbeing and enable resilience to support and care for others.
The Action Plan included:
Daily challenges, such as the plank, wall squats and Walking at lunchtime round FRVH
Recognition of Birthdays and special events in the team member’s personal lives
Checking in with each other
Social events and nights out
Wednesday waffles, a chat over coffee after weekly meeting
Organise a hill walk
In order to record all of the positive activities we were doing in the department we set about developing a Newsletter. We wanted to bring the team together and to create a sense of community in the department. Out of this “The Oracle” was born – a Newsletter that was for the Occupational Health Team by the Occupational Health Team.
In the Newsletter we have various sections from current staff news – births, marriages and retirements, to cookery, podcasts, reading and we even have an “Ask Alison” section which lets staff ask our resident expert any gardening questions they may have.
If staff have seen something or done something of interest if they send it in – and it’s in the newsletter!
The Newsletter celebrates all the great things that the team do within and outwith work and has been enjoyed as a collaborative project, encouraging everyone to participate.
