Creating a tree of knowledge

Mayfield Assessment and Treatment Unit, Lynebank Hospital

Learning Disabilities

Our imatter tree is displayed within the ward and shows what we are doing well, areas for improvement and desired outcomes.

Our imatter action plan highlighted the need for improved staff morale, increased motivation and new idea’s within the team.

We have introduced a positive comments box within the entrance of our ward. This is available for any staff member, patient or visitor who wishes to contribute. The feedback from the comments box is then displayed on the wall within the ward for all to see. It is updated each month. This positive feedback has been welcomed by the staff team who appreciate the visual display of positivity.

We have implemented a staff wellbeing wall within the ward. This has up to date resources on a range of subjects including tips for positive health and wellbeing, exercise and gym information, financial support and kindness and compassion. The staff team have reported that this is a welcome addition to our ward environment.

It was highlighted within the imatter action plan that due to delayed discharges, the patient group has been static for a significant period of time.  Although the nursing team have little control over this, we have been working hard as a team and in collaboration with patients to plan, organise and facilitate enjoyable events throughout the year. This has included charity events, fundraisers, sports days and celebrations such as burns night, Easter and the Kings coronation. These events have been a positive experience for patients and staff and this lead to improved morale and job satisfaction within the team.
